If you are planning to open your own store, there are several things you should consider when choosing your storefront.
Location Location is one of the most important things to consider when choosing a storefront. You want to make sure you choose a location that is easy to find and has adequate parking for your customers. If you are in an area where parking in not available, make sure your customers are able to walk to your store safely and easily. You may want to choose a location that is near other stores and restaurants or a busy part of town. The more people who pass by and see your store, the more potential customers you have. Condition You always want to choose a storefront that is in good condition. Customers are more likely to visit stores that look nice than those that are falling apart or are in need of repairs. You also don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you are paying to repair your storefront and are losing money in your business while trying to keep your store in working condition. Size When it comes to choosing a size for your store, you should consider your needs. You don’t want to choose a store that is larger than you need but you also want to make sure you have enough room to display your products and allow your customers to browse. Stores are easily crowded so make sure you consider the number of people who will likely visit your store and choose your store size accordingly. Cost Cost is a big deal to most people when purchasing a store or choosing one to rent for a store or company. Make sure you consider your budget and the value of the store before you purchase it. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for in most cases. Try to find a store that is a good value for the price instead of paying more than necessary or trying to find the cheapest place possible. You want to have enough money to put towards other aspects of your business. Your storefront is important you should take your time when choosing the right one. Tatum Sherman took her time and put a lot of thought into choosing where she would open her first boutique. Make sure you do the same so your store can be just as successful. Tatum Sherman has always been very ambitious and as a teenager, she had plans to design clothing and one day own her own store. She was able to make that dream a reality two years ago when she graduated fashion design school and successfully launched her own clothing line. Tatum Sherman clothing line did so well that she was able to purchase her first storefront. Owning a store isn’t easy and there are many things to consider before opening one.
Inventory Control If you want your boutique to have enough clothing inventory items to keep your customer happy, but don’t want to end up with too much, you need to keep track of the items in your store. Not only do you need to take inventory of the items on the shelves and racks, but also those in your storage areas as well. This will also give you an idea of which items are selling and which ones aren’t so you can plan for your next shipment or purchase accordingly. Financial Planning Owning a store requires a lot of financial planning and if you do not keep track of your finances it could fail. Many store owners are not comfortable doing their own finances and they choose to hire someone to do it professionally. You may want to hire a financial planner or an accountant to help you with your store finances. If you choose to do them yourself, you may want to take a couple business courses and use some computer software that makes it easier. Marketing Marketing is essential for the success of a business and you will need to advertise your boutique in order to make people aware of it and to boost your business. You can choose to market your boutique yourself or you may want to hire a marketing company to help you. It may cost more to hire a company, but it is worth the cost to have your boutique advertised properly. Employees If you plan on owning more than one boutique or if your boutique will require several employees, you will need to hire and plan for scheduling. You should choose employees who are interested in fashion, are capable of doing what is necessary at the boutique and who are likable and have good customer service skills. If you have dreams of one day owning your own boutique or store, make sure you are ready for all the hard work it requires. Not everyone is cut out for the job, but those who are dedicated and enjoy fashions can run very successful stores.
